Hi! My Name is Michael, and I have been working at Absolute Balance Exercise Physiology Group just over a year and have been working as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist for almost 5 years. Over my time at Absolute Balance Exercise Physiology Group, I have been involved with the running of the corporate facilities, injury prevention and now spend the large part of my day in the exercise rehabilitation team.
As usual for a kid growing up in Australia, sport was a big part of my life, playing football, cricket and everything in between. However, I realised early on that to be involved in sports long term, it may need to be on the other side of the fence. This was due to some not so memorable moments such as winning the coaches award when my dad was the coach and having a career batting average of less than 10. Just to mention a few…
So, to continue my passion for sport and health, when it came to decide what to study at University I went with a degree in Sports Science at Murdoch University. It was during these first couple of years at university that I realised the impact that health and wellbeing can have on the wider population, and how exercise truly is the answer to all health conditions. I then shifted my focus and goals away from working within the sporting industry, to working with the wider population who could greatly benefit from Exercise.
Over my time at University I also took time to travel, spending four months solo-travelling around Europe, visiting all the tourist hotspots. Since that trip I have visited the US, had a ski trip in Canada and spent 6 weeks in Thailand, with the highlight of visiting an elephant sanctuary in the mountains. I also have a soft spot for New Zealand, as my Mum is originally from there, with the aim of one day travelling the length of the island.
Over the last 5 years I have had the privilege of meeting and working with people from all walks of life, and have been involved in so many great outcomes, which all motivate me to continue with this career and industry!
